The personnel services provider Adecco unveiled the Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2020 at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The index analyses the competitiveness of 132 countries for qualified workers. For the seventh time in a row, Switzerland scooped the top spot, followed this year by the USA, Singapore and Sweden.

High standard of living

Switzerland’s success can be attributed to several factors, including the high standard of living. Global talent value, in particular, the high purchasing power, good job opportunities and interesting positions, writes Adecco in a statement.

Top education opportunities

There are also excellent education and vocational training opportunities in Switzerland. One of the country’s core strengths, according to Adecco, is the dual-track vocational education system. Switzerland also offers the opportunity to study a program regardless of economic status.

Global talent further appreciate the secure legal and economic conditions in Switzerland, which compose a healthy market environment, writes Adecco.

Zurich scores high among cities

Adecco also published a cities index. New York topped the ranking, followed by London and Singapore, while Zurich outperformed all other Swiss cities to rank 17th, after coming 5th last year.

The gap between high income countries and the rest of the world is widening, according to Adecco – a fact the Zurich-based global personnel services provider attributes to factors including the lack of digital skills. Working with the education establishment General Assembly, it is now planning to promote digital training. The goal is to educate 5 million people across the company by 2030.
