We live in a time in which industrial companies must rethink their processes by integrating digitalization in the manufacturing of their products, and Constellium Valais and HES-SO Valais-Wallis are no strangers to this reality. It was then only natural for them to partner up in an effort to share each other’s competencies in the fields of digitalization and industrial processes, therefore creating the “Smart Process Lab”.

“The creation of this Smart Process Lab is a great opportunity for Constellium Valais to expand our industrial competencies in Applied Research and Development and digitalization. The proximity of our industrial plant and the HES-SO will facilitate the implementation of the projects and therefore quickly gain in competitiveness, by accelerating the introduction of new added-value products to the market. This Lab should also help us to generate new ideas of product to broaden our horizons on other markets, and also to improve our quality and efficiency in our production processes”, says Lionel Thomas, director of Constellium Valais in a press release.

A laboratory which may benefit the entire industry

This “Smart Process Lab” will allow the Haute Ecole d’Ingénierie to strengthen its Smart Product & Process area of expertise, making it a privileged R&D partner for industrial companies seeking guidance in their digital transformation. These companies will also benefit from the competencies of the other institutes of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, which already operate in an interdisciplinary manner on subjects of importance to the canton of Valais, like energy, e-health and regional development.

In Valais, Constellium employs over 700 people and is organized around three production plants serving two of Constellium’s operational business units : Aerospace and Transportation, and Automotive Structure and Industries.
