Prosperity Index 2014: Switzerland ranks second among the most prosperous countries

Switzerland again has been nominated as the second most prosperous country in the world. It particularly excels for its economy as well as for its governance.

In the British Legatum Institute’s «Prosperity Index 2014», Switzerland positioned itself right behind the leading Norway for the second time in a row. It receives the  best grades for the domains economy and governance. According to the authors of the report, Switzerland has been the best governed country in the world for the past six years.


In the  «Prosperity Index 2014» 142 countries have been covered, which represent more than 96 percent of the world population and 99 percent of the global GDP. Thereby, eight factors such as economy, entrepreneurship, governance, education, personal freedom, health, security and social capital have been evaluated. Ranked in the top five along with Norway and Switzerland are New Zealand, Denmark and Canada.
