As a member of the NAFTA free trade area, Mexico has preferential access to the USA and Canada and in recent years has grown into an extended workbench. Mexico is Switzerland's second-largest trading partner in the region. The country has more than a dozen free trade agreements, meaning that it is very well-connected in global trade.
The automotive, air transport, infrastructure and food industries offer the greatest opportunities for Swiss companies. The automotive industry has become the most important economic sector in Mexico in terms of value creation, and is growing strongly due to the excellent production and export conditions.
