Australia - a promising market for Swiss rail companies
Webinar highlighting opportunities for Swiss rail and metro companies in Australia.
Australia’s rail network is vast. Stretching east to west and north to south, the rail network is made up of approximately 33,000 km of track, which represents the sixth largest railway network in the world.
Australia’s rail sector contributed $AUD29billion (CHF19.5billion) to the economy in 2019. This equated to 1.5% of Australia’s total economy and 4.5% growth each year since 2016. The rail sector employs over 53,000 full-time employees (FTEs) directly, and approximately 89,000 indirectly.
Australia’s rail network is constantly evolving and is being driven by various factors, such as greater use of passenger rail services, an increase in the use of light rail in all capital cities, new demand in the use of regional and inter-urban rail services, as well as technology developments such as remote-controlled, driverless trains have driven greater efficiencies and reduced costs
These market drivers are expected to see the combined investment in rail by Commonwealth, State, and Territory governments of Australia exceed $AUD100billion by 2030 (CHF67billion), creating unprecedented opportunities for Swiss companies to participate.
