Lucerne will host the 37th European Film Awards (EFA). As announced by the European Film Academy on 14 December, around 1,200 guests are expected to attend the ceremony of the European Film Awards in the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL) in December 2024. “We are delighted that Lucerne will be the focus of the European film industry,” said Lucerne’s Mayor Beat Züsli in a press release. “It is an important expression of support for Lucerne as a cultural and educational hotspot, for both the city and the canton.”

Head of the Lucerne Cantonal Government Marcel Schwerzmann additionally highlighted the significance for local tourism and Lucerne as a business location. The Academy said this was a great opportunity for Switzerland “to promote Swiss art, culture and design, as well as marketing Switzerland as a high quality destination for film production and attractive partner for co-productions thanks to an excellent support scheme”.

The project enterprise EFA 2024 Lucerne has been created to organize the event. Its members include the city and canton of Lucerne, the Federal Office of Culture and SRG SSR as media partner. The project enterprise has delegated execution of the event to the Film Commission Lucerne & Central Switzerland, which will handle all aspects on-site, such as the ceremony and fringe program. The Commission had already taken on advertising and project planning work.
