Interview with Holger Hoffmann-Riem, Go for Impact

The science-based target initiative SBTi and related business opportunities for exporting Swiss cleantech companies

The SBTi is a partnership of NGOs that enables organizations to set science-based emissions reduction targets. Companies that set science-based climate targets make a commitment to reduce not just their own emissions but emissions across their entire supply chain. Watch the interview with Holger Hoffmann-Riem from "Go for Impact" to learn more about how Swiss SME can participate.

Interview with Holger Hoffmann-Riem on Science-based Target Initiative

Decarbonization is currently a high priority, not only for states but also for large corporations. When a large multinational sets a science-based emissions reduction target, it implies that its suppliers will also need to establish targets. SMEs are now facing a straightforward choice: either set credible targets or risk losing business.

Given that the number of companies with science-based targets doubles every year, for most export-oriented SMEs, it's not a matter of whether they need to set targets, but rather when they should do so.

Swiss companies must recognize that decarbonization is not an option but a necessity. The new Swiss climate law mandates them to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, compelling them to take action regardless.

The cleantech mandate at S-GE aims to promote the involvement of Swiss companies offering cleantech products and services and facilitate their entry into markets where they can make the most significant impacts.
