March 17, 2022 / 11.45 -13.15 EDT (Ottawa), 16.45 -18.15 CET (Bern)
Water has a wide range of use in our daily lives. It is abundant yet scarce; life-sustaining yet life-threatening once contaminated. With the growing demographics and industrialization, the quantity and quality of water is deteriorating. By 2025, 2/3 of the population could be facing a water crisis, while 80% of the wastewater discharged is untreated. All these can pose as an economical and environmental threat. Hence coordinated efforts through research and innovation are needed for developing sustainable water solutions.
This session looks at state-of-the-art and latest developments in Switzerland and Canada that contribute to improving the water cycle gap, efficient usage, water quality and wastewater management.
We have invited innovative Canadian and Swiss companies, corporates and research institutions to present their pitches on innovative developments covering technologies that contribute to improvements in water and wastewater management which includes: Water Supply and Quality, Water and Watershed Management, Water for Circular Economy (Reclamation and Reuse), Water for Ecosystems and Biodiversity, Waste Water Treatment (Conventional Activated Sludge System, Energy Recovery and Neutral Methods, Bioreactors, Residual Separation and Treatment Techniques), Stormwater and Wet Weather Management, and Collection Systems.

Association of Swiss Wastewater and Water Protection Experts (VSA)
The platform process engineering micropollutants, active since 2012, is a joint initiative of VSA, the Federal Office of the Environment (FOEN) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology. It supports the development of a Swiss nationwide knowledge base, promotes exchange between research, industry and authorities and conducts projects examining measures to reduce the entry of substances from municipal and industrial wastewater into the waterways.
Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag)
Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is concerned with concepts and technologies for dealing sustainably with water bodies and water as a resource. Eawag works closely with universities, research institutions, industry and non-governmental organisations, to harmonise ecological, economic and social interests in respect of water usage, serving as a bridge between the scientific and ‘real world’.
University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI)
The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland offers more than 30 Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree courses, combining classical theoretical-scientific instruction with a professional orientation. Great care is given to research in key sectors on competitively acquired projects with large European and national agencies or mandated by organisations and institutions.
bNovate Technologies SA
bNovate is bringing new solutions to the worldwide water industry to accurately monitor bacteria in quasi real-time, much faster than standard plating methods requiring 2-4 days incubation. Our simple-to-use, robust & connected instrument, BactoSense, measures the bacteria concentration fully automatically 24/7, thus offering new possibilities to water utilities and the bottled water industry. SAFE WATER. ANYTIME. ANYWHERE.
Joulia Ltd
Joulia ltd., based in Biel/Switzerland, has dedicated itself to the topic of heat recovery directly from showers and develops and produces highly efficient heat exchangers that are integrated into shower drains and shower trays, where they recover over 50% of the heat from the wastewater. At times when the domestic hot water already requires more energy than the entire room heating, a meaningful contribution!
Laufen Bathrooms AG
