China in the World from a Swiss Perspective

stars Webinar series – "Staying in Dialogue with China"

In our second conversation of this series, stars Switzerland Alumni Chapter President Markus HERRMANN, Managing Director at China Macro Group (CMG), will be talking to HE Ambassador Bernardino REGAZZONI, Ambassador for Switzerland to the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia and the DPRK since March 2019. Switzerland was one of the first Western countries to officially recognize the PRC in 1950. As one among the few European countries so far, Switzerland signed a Free Trade Agreement with China in 2013. Against the backdrop of China’s self-imposed isolation and of hardening positions vis-à-vis China in many Western capitals, the Swiss Federal Council issued its first-ever China strategy in early 2021. How has this impacted Sino-Swiss relations? What are the diplomatic challenges in a rapidly evolving geopolitical context? And what does this all mean for the Swiss private sector?

COVID-19 has caused the cancellation of all stars symposia in 2020 and 2021 including those two foreseen in Shenzhen where we wanted to continue the annual stars China symposia previously held in Chengdu and Chongqing since 2015. Realizing that 2022 will be another year without reasonable possibilities for physical interactions with friends and experts in China, we have prepared a China-dedicated webinar series with seven webinars taking place between May and September 2022. We are happy to cooperate with SwissCham Beijing and Shanghai, the French Chamber (CCI France Chine), the Benelux Chamber (BenCham) and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) as well as with Caixin Global as media partner and the China Macro Group as knowledge partner.
