Cruise ship equipped with Schindler’s sophisticated lifts

Carnival Horizon has become the first ship to be equipped with Schindler’s PORT Technology. The passengers select their destination from a touch-panel before they enter the lift. They are then directed to the one that will take them to their destination the fastest.

Carnival Cruise Line only recently took delivery of the Carnival Horizon from the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The cruise ship has been supplied with 33 lifts and four escalators by Schindler. The 16 core passenger lifts are all equipped with PORT Technology, a highly sophisticated lift control and security access technology based on a Schindler innovation.

This PORT Technology means the lifts know where the passengers are going before they enter the car. The passengers already select their destination from a touch-panel in the lobby. They are then directed to the one that will take them to the deck they want the fastest. This means fewer stops, shorter travel time and less energy consumed by the system, as Schindler explained in a press release. The company from the canton of Lucerne has calculated that this results in a time saving of up to 40 per cent.

Carnival Horizon is the first ship equipped with Schindler’s PORT Technology. The cruise ship is now making its maiden trans-Atlantic crossing, arriving in New York on May 23, 2018.
