After two years of construction, the new campus of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) on the Suurstoffi site in Rotkreuz has now been officially opened. The campus will be home to the Institute of Financial Services Zug IFZ of the Department of Economics. This weekend’s opening celebration was a chance for around 6,000 guests to explore the new campus space. They were able to communicate with robots and try out virtual reality goggles. The campus opening was part of the Suurstoffi Open Day, where other tenants of the site also introduced themselves.

With the start of the semester, about 1,350 bachelor and master’s students, several hundred continuing education students and conference delegates as well as around 210 new staff will be learning, teaching, researching and working on the new campus, a press release reported. On about 16,000 square meters, the campus boasts office, teaching and event space, laboratories and studios, a large library and a canteen.

In his opening speech, HSLU President Markus Hodel highlighted the significance of the new campus in ensuring a promising future for Central Switzerland. Given the shortage of skilled professionals in the area of ICT and the challenges that digitalization brings for economy and society, the new university campus is especially important.
