Siemens has officially opened its modernized research and development facility at the global headquarters of its Zug-based Siemens Smart Infrastructure division. With this, the climate-neutral campus for 1,700 employees has now been completed following a construction period lasting seven years, further details of which can be found in a press release. The German technology group has invested a sum of approximately 250 million Swiss francs in state-of-the-art technology and in Switzerland as a business location.
Siemens considers Zug a key location for the development of building technologies. Each year, Siemens files around 80 new patents from its Zug site. In this way, the technology group also sees the campus, which comprises three buildings, as a model for its new digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator for sustainable building technologies.
At the official opening, during a tour of the campus, attendees had the opportunity to experience what Building X has to offer. Also part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, Building X helps customers digitalize, manage, and optimize building operations, allowing for enhanced user experience, increased performance, and improved sustainability.
“Siemens uniquely combines the real and the digital worlds to create a better tomorrow”, comments Matthias Rebellius, CEO of Smart Infrastructure and management board member of Siemens AG, in the press release, adding that the new Siemens Campus in Zug is a “great example of this”. The campus, which features “the latest technology from across our portfolio to enhance building operations and achieve the highest efficiencies, is set to operate on a fully climate-neutral basis." As such, Siemens will be in a position to make good on a commitment it made two years ago.
