BioArk Monthey, owned by the municipality of Monthey and the canton of Valais through The Ark Foundation, employs around 280 individuals across 40 companies. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the technology site has inaugurated its third building, aptly named BioArk III. This comes after a successful expansion in 2015, highlighting the sustained demand for cutting-edge spaces in the life sciences sector.

BioArk’s unique ecosystem, blending specialized infrastructure with a robust network of competencies, offers a nurturing environment for SMEs, start-ups, and innovators in biotechnology and diagnostics. This well-curated space supports them in capitalizing on business prospects, moving seamlessly from ideation to commercialization.

From housing rapid diagnostic tests to crafting “biological” drugs, BioArk’s facilities have always been at the forefront of innovation. With the first two buildings, BioArk I and II, the site offered approximately 64,580 square feet of functional space. Now, with the addition of BioArk III, they have expanded their horizon by an additional 53,800 square feet.

This new building offers state-of-the-art facilities for start-ups, SMEs, and spin-offs brimming with innovation in the realm of life sciences. Designed for adaptability, BioArk III boasts multi-functional facilities. From fully-equipped “plug and play” laboratories and office spaces to cGMP clean rooms (Class C) tailored for biotech procedures, every nook and corner speaks of avant-garde design and functionality.

Positioned strategically in Monthey’s industrial area, BioArk is a key player for the biopharmaceutical sector in Valais, amplifying the canton’s international reputation as a hub for collaboration and innovation in the field.

Reflecting on the continual growth and the recent addition, Jean-Marc Tornare, BioArk’s managing director, stated: ” Our aim is to anticipate future needs. We’re looking ahead to the future of BioArk, so that we’re ready when companies approach us to set up shop here.”
