Headquartered in Lucerne, the Wascosa Group has successfully secured growth financing. According to a press release, the company, which leases rail freight wagon systems, topped up an existing capital expenditure facility by 90 million euros. At the same time, it reached an agreement for another investment loan in the amount of 150 million euros. In so doing, the group has demonstrated its ability to secure senior debt on the basis of a strong and resilient business model, as the company writes in the press release. The new loan was taken out with KfW IPEX-Bank. This financing is also intended to support Wascosa’ efforts in the area of sustainability, with the company set to use the investment to boost its ambitions of accelerating the shift from road to rail.

“We are very proud to close the first expansion of our growth financing facilities after setting up our new corporate financing platform in 2022”, comments Benjamin Mehran, Group Head of Investments & Financing at Wascosa, in the press release. He adds: “In 2023, our Group has proven its continuing abilities to structure and build up a sustainable investment pipeline of new rail freight assets. This raise of our growth financing is essential to fund our long-term growth. Again, a great milestone on our path to maintain and expand our leading position in Europe”.

According to information from the company itself, the Wascosa Group owns one of the largest integrated rail wagon fleets in Europe. It leases freight wagon systems, with the car fleet ranging from tank cars for the chemical and petrochemical industry, to combined traffic, right through to bulk goods transportation.
