The University of Lucerne will be offering a new interdisciplinary master’s degree program in the area of climate protection from the upcoming fall semester onwards. The Climate Politics, Economics, and Law (CPEL) master’s course - the only one of its kind in Switzerland - is intended to properly address the full scope of climate issues, as the university writes in a press release. The course is geared towards students of political science, economics and law with an interest in interdisciplinary approaches.

Up to now, climate discourse has been above all shaped by scientific perspectives, the University of Lucerne explains. However, climate issues are increasingly at the center of political and social debates. In order to explore the complex relationships between these aspects and develop the necessary solutions, the university believes that knowledge about the technical implementation of measures is just as crucial as social science perspectives on the impact and public acceptance of these.

The new course is designed to combine the necessary knowledge from the worlds of politics, economics and law. Graduates of this interdisciplinary master’s degree program will have access to political or management consulting roles, for example, as well as career opportunities in executive positions in public administration or international cooperation.
