Pistor building distribution center in Eastern Switzerland

Pistor has started work on the construction of a logistics building in Sennwald in the canton of St.Gallen. With this new distribution center, the wholesaler is seeking to operate in greater proximity to its customers in Eastern Switzerland, including restaurants, bakeries and hospitals, which it supplies with food and other products. Pistor is investing 18.5 million Swiss francs in this project.

Pistor AG has broken ground in Sennwald as part of a construction project to build a new distribution center to serve Eastern Switzerland. Once built, Pistor will supply restaurants, bakeries and hospitals based in the cantons of Thurgau, St.Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Innerrhoden, Graubünden, Glarus and the Principality of Liechtenstein primarily from its new building in Sennwald, and no longer from the headquarters in Rothenburg in the canton of Lucerne, according to a press release.

The new logistics building will cover an area of 9,000 square meters with space for 16 truck ramps, in addition to offering logistics areas, office space and a truck wash supplied by rainwater. Solar power systems are being installed on the roof, while some of the truck fleet is to be powered by electricity. To realize this vision, the wholesaler is investing a sum of 18.5 million Swiss francs.

The company plans to employ up to 24 members of staff on site, with the new distribution center expected to commence operations in 2025. “For us, starting the construction work is a moment that we worked towards with great determination”, as CEO Patrick Lobsiger explains in the press release. “The distribution center for Eastern Switzerland represents both our company’s future orientation and innovative power”, he adds. The new logistics hub facilitates additional delivery days, shorter routes and, above all, sustainable deliveries. Goods are delivered to the center by rail at night, before being distributed to their respective destinations by truck from Sennwald.

“With this hub, Sennwald can welcome another nationally active and innovative company”, comments Bertrand Hug, Mayor of Sennwald. “It is particularly pleasing that this will lead to the creation of new jobs”, he concludes.
