A new railway line, viewing tower and mountain station will be built on Mount Titlis by 2028. Schindler, the Lucerne-based global elevator, escalator and moving walkway specialist, has announced in a press release that it is playing a role in the project: Titlis Bergbahnen, based in the canton of Obwalden, has placed an order for eight elevators and seven escalators with the company.

“We have made a big effort to involve local and regional companies from central Switzerland in the project,” says Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Bergbahnen. Schindler was asked to provide the escalators and elevators. “We chose them because of their experience, our many years of cooperation and their range of products.”

In the press release, the Lucerne-based elevator manufacturer highlights the challenges of a construction site on a mountain. “Our employees’ experience of working on challenging projects of this nature was a decisive factor,” explains Schindler project manager Jonas Wyrsch. The weather conditions and altitude make the construction work more difficult, but also mean that logistics have to be considered more carefully, because it is time-consuming to bring missing parts or tools up the mountain. “The planning has to be perfect and there is no margin for error,” says Wyrsch.
