The readers of the trade journal “Computer&Automation” have crowned a Baumer sensor as Product of the Year 2024, further details of which can be found in a press release. The ultra-flat IF 250 inductive sensor from the Frauenfeld-based sensor specialists, which measures in at a height of just 6 millimeters, is intended for use in the tightest of installation spaces. According to the company from the canton of Thurgau, the sensor can detect objects up to a distance of 12 millimeters, which, as Baumer goes on to explain, is something that has never been achieved before in a sensor of this size.

The IF 250 is suitable for use in areas where conventional cylindrical sensors cannot be integrated due to a lack of space. As an extremely flat sensor, another advantage is that it can be mounted at a greater safety distance from the object to be detected, Baumer states. In addition, the IF 250 is suitable for use in new machines as well as for retrofit projects for systems in which no sensor had previously been integrated. The IF 250 is available as a proximity switch with industry-standard PNP or NPN output. As a measuring system, it comes with a digital IO-Link interface.
