Park Innovaare was officially opened in the presence of Guy Parmelin, member of the Federal Council (the Swiss federal government) and Dieter Egli, Vice-President of the Aargau cantonal government. The innovation park covers an area of 23,000 square meters and is home to cleanrooms and laboratories, precision workshops, office space and meeting rooms, further details of which can be found in a press release. “To date, a total of 21 companies have established a presence in the park, including 15 spin-offs from PSI, ETH and FHNW, two technology transfer centers and a major international corporation”, comments CEO Robert Rudolph in the press release. “Overall, the occupancy rate stands at 80 percent at present and we are extremely confident that we will be able to increase this even further over the next few months”, Rudolph adds.
The new innovation park is located directly adjacent to the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), which is a strategic partner and main tenant of Park Innovaare. The focus of Park Innovaare is on photonics, quantum technologies, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and semiconductor technologies, in addition to energy and sustainability.
“The aim is to make new insights, methods and research specialists available to businesses. In this way, Switzerland’s high-level competitiveness should be bolstered”, comments Christian Rüegg, Director of PSI, in the press release.
Park Innovare is now the sixth Switzerland Innovation site. “For many years now, Switzerland has been one of the world’s most innovative countries. In order to ensure that our excellent education system and research capabilities result in products and services that can be commercialized, our universities must be optimally networked with businesses”, as Andreas Rickenbacher, President of Switzerland Innovation, explains in the press release. He describes Park Innovaare as the best example of how leading-edge research and the economy at large can be optimally brought together.
