Doing Business 2015: Switzerland among the most business-friendly locations

According to the World Bank’s «Doing Business 2015» report, Switzerland ranks among the 20 most business-friendly and thus best business locations worldwide. The solid ranking can be explained by the increase of transparency and shareholder participation, the survey shows.


Switzerland climbed up nine positions in this year’s ranking by the World Bank and now occupies rank 20. One reason for this remarkable improve is the increase of applying online procedures, according to the survey. When it comes to corporate governance, Switzerland was capable of improving as well, thanks to the increased transparency required from companies. The country received full points for the strengthened role of shareholders in management.


The «Doing Business 2015: Going Beyond Efficiency» ranking is yearly published and compares 189 countries with regard to their regulations of business activities. In order to evaluate the countries, 10 indicators have been used: Starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency. Singapore got hold of the leading position. New Zealand ranked second, followed by Hong Kong.
