Political and economic stability attracts workforce from around the world.

Last month, the global consulting company Mercer published the results of a new survey assessing quality of life for expat employees around the word. Three Swiss cities ranked among the top ten cities: Zurich (2), Geneva (8) and Basel (10). It doesn’t come as a surprise that Switzerland now also appears in a top position in a recent survey by Cartus, the leading provider of global relocation services. The ranking was established by collecting data from its worldwide client base, which includes more than 50 percent of Fortune 50 companies and approximately 163,000 corporate and affinity relocations in nearly 150 countries in 2016. Switzerland moved up two spots since the 2013 survey and is now the third most popular country that companies prefer to send their employees to for foreign work assignments.

Stability pays off
Switzerland's dominant industries are machinery, chemicals, precision instruments, banking and insurance. According to Cartus, Switzerland’s main points for attracting workers are:

  • political and economic stability

  • low unemployment rates

  • prominent labor specialization

  • highest per capita incomes in the world
