An intensive big data bootcamp
As part of its Big Data MBA program, the school organizes a bootcamp in Lausanne in August every year for South Korean students. For obvious Covid-19 related reasons, the 2020 bootcamp was held online in South Korea. As the Korean students were unable to come to Switzerland, let alone meet Swiss companies, David Claivaz, Acting Dean of Business School Lausanne and CEO of Lemania Swiss Group of Schools, asked S-GE to help organize two days of visits to Swiss companies based in South Korea. The added value for the companies that accepted a visit was that they could receive free advice from students on their data analysis project. Mission more than accomplished!
Swiss Business Hub Korea: virtual company visit
Switzerland Global Enterprise and its office in Seoul—Swiss Business Hub Korea—provided effective support to BSL’s South Korean partner. Result: The bootcamp focused on a big data project by Zuellig Pharma, a Swiss group operating in Asia. The network of contacts established by Swiss Business Hub Korea made it possible to establish contact with Zuellig. The professor who led the course said he was very happy with the students’ work. He also perceived a very high level of satisfaction among the students. There was no physical visit to the Zuellig Pharma premises, but there was plenty of interaction between the students and Zuellig Pharma management, which ultimately provided all the benefits of a company visit, namely direct, concrete links with the Swiss economy.
Contact was also made with Schindler and SwissRe through Swiss Business Hub Korea. These companies could not be involved in the bootcamp due to timing issues, but contact will be maintained for further projects with the students.
