Swissrail Mission to Poland

Poland is the biggest economy in the Central and Easter Europe and has been rapidly growing for the past 30 years. Despite significant progress in the last decade, Poland lags far behind Western European economies when it comes to the quantity and quality of its railway infrastructure. The Polish railway system is old and there is a need to develop high speed routes and interconnectors and inter- and multimodal transportation hubs. The main instrument to develop the railway network is the National Railway Program which encompasses investment amounted to ca. 17.2 bn CHF until 2032, co-financed with the EU funds. The projects are aimed to modernize and extend the existing net of railways and railway stations. Since 2018 the Polish government is also planning the construction of the Central Communication Port (CPK) as a flagship infrastructure project which would serve as the biggest airport/railway hub in Poland. As part of the CPK railway program, almost 2.000 km of new lines are planned which are to be built by the end of 2034. Besides the rail infrastructure opportunities, Poland is a home base of four rolling stock manufacturers: Stadler, Alstom, Newag and PESA. The country presents therefore excellent opportunities for the Swissrail companies both in the fields of infrastructure and the production of rolling stock.
