Schindler will equip the Cairo Monorail with state-of-the-art mobility. According to information from the elevator and escalator supplier based in Ebikon, it has secured a major contract for this. The order volume comprises the “delivery, installation and maintenance of 136 elevators and 272 escalators”.

After they have been completed, the new rapid transit routes will transport millions of passengers seamlessly between Egypt’s New Administrative Capital and the eastern districts of Cairo.

According to Julio Arce, Member of the Executive Committee at Schindler, the new order marks “the first project in the public transport sector in Egypt”. He adds that with this, the company can continue its growth course in the region. In 2021, Schindler received a large order for 129 high-rise elevators for six office blocks in the emerging city. It is being regarded as the “high-tech model for the future of Egypt”.
